Sustainability Award-Winner Oryx Stainless (Thailand) Celebrates Grand Opening of a New Factory in Thailand. Oryx Stainless (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the market leader in stainless steel recycling in Thailand and Southeast Asia, celebrated the Grand Opening of its new site in Bangpakong, Chachoengsao province, Thailand. More than 200 guests from Thailand, all over Asia and Overseas travelled to Bangpakong to congratulate staff, management and shareholders of Oryx Stainless to the successful start of the modern state-of-the-art operation. After the old yard run out of capacity, the new factory will now form the basis for the further dynamic growth of Oryx Stainless in Thailand over the coming years. The Event Team transformed the factory into a decorated event space. The VIP guests consisting of representatives from the government, embassies, chambers, customers, suppliers and banks as well as the staff being the origin of (Oryx Stainless) Thailand's success. A dynamic and entertaining event program impressed the attendees who enjoyed different music and shows, ending the evening with a live performance from Myria Nut Benedetti, a well-known Thai artist. Marthijn Smit, CEO of Oryx Stainless Thailand opened the event by giving a welcome address to all Asian and international visitors. He underlines that Oryx Stainless is committed to the Kingdom of Thailand and its people and is pleased to operate in Thailand with the knowledge-based, sustainable business model being the recycling of premium stainless steel. Mr. Smit said: “Oryx Stainless (Thailand) is committed to staying a lighthouse for sustainability and strong promoter for the circular economy in Thailand and the distant region. We are deeply committed to contributing to the development and sharing the knowledge about the importance of recycling. Specifically concerning stainless steel in Thailand and the SE Asia region.” Mr. Smit furthermore underlined that the recycling of stainless-steel saves greenhouse gases in immense amounts. The quantities of Oryx Stainless Thailand delivered to the stainless-steel industry during 2018 stand for about 350,000 tons of carbon dioxide savings. The Oryx Stainless Group in total contributed more than 2.2 million tons of CO2 savings to protect society against further climate change. In his speech, Mr. Michael Pawlowski, co-founder, major shareholder and Chairman of Oryx Stainless Group expressed how proud he and the other shareholders are about the very successful development of the Thai entity. Mr. Pawlowski explained” I am proud to say that I have the best colleagues I could wish for and I don’t believe there is a better team in our industry than the one we have in Thailand. Hard working, warm-hearted and honest people who are the soul of this truly Thai company.” Yoong Sung Won, Vice President and raw material purchasing team leader at South Korean Posco – one of the biggest stainless-steel producers in Asia and worldwide – honoured Oryx Stainless by pushing the button together with the local CEO and Chairman to mark the official start and inauguration. During this grand opening night, all the employees of the Thai operation were the Stars and are accurate and appreciated members of the Oryx Stainless Family. Together with all the highly respected VIPs and stakeholders, they enjoyed the rest of the evening with a broad variety of tasty food and cultivated drinks. The party following the official ceremony ended late at night with happy smiling faces all around. Oryx Stainless is planning to open another facility with the successful Thai operation being the blueprint for further expansion in Asia. The company was grateful for the visit and participation of a delegation from Malaysia’s Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as the Malaysian Investment Development Agency. Their attendance enabled an unfiltered view of the business model on the sustainable zero waste stainless steel scrap processing which made Oryx Stainless Thailand the benchmark and lighthouse for a circular economy in Southeast Asia.
