KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 3, 2019 /Bernama-AsiaNet/ --

Malaysia’s latest animated film ‘Upin & Ipin : The Lone Gibbon Kris’, produced
by Les’ Copaque Production Sdn. Bhd.’s has aired in 68 cinemas across Vietnam
on 26th April 2019. The film is distributed in Vietnam by Galaxy Studio JC and
has been dubbed in Vietnamese.

“Upin & Ipin : The Lone Gibbon Kris” tells of Upin and Ipin’s adventure with
their friends in a fantastical kingdom called “Inderaloka”. There, they will
meet various characters from Malaysian folklore such as Mat Jenin, Bawang
Merah, Bawang Putih, and Pak Belalang. Viewers familiar with the stories will
be able to recall the nostalgic stories as they watch the characters
re-imagined and animated in 3D, and new viewers will get to know many colourful
and vibrant characters. The kris itself is the anchor of the story, inspired by
a real-life mysterious bladeless Malay dagger. Moreover, the film will feature
two original songs performed by Malaysian songstress Ernie Zakri and Bruneian
singer Fakrul Razi. The music videos of both songs have been uploaded to Les’
Copaque Production’s YouTube channel.

Asyiela Putri Azhar, who originated the voice of the titular twins in the ‘Upin
& Ipin’ series reprises her role in this film. Joining her in the cast line-up
are Mohd Amir Asyraf Mohd Noor as Mat Jenin, Fakhrul Razi as Nakhoda Ragam,
Ernie Zakri as both Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih, and Ahmad Mawardi Abdul
Rahman as the evil antagonist Raja Bersiong. The film is directed by Adam
Amiruddin, Ahmad Razuri Roseli, and Syed Nurfaiz Khalid Syed Ibrahim, who are
experienced in directing Les’ Copaque’s IPs ‘Upin & Ipin’, ‘Pada Zaman Dahulu’,
and ‘Puteri’ respectively.

The film’s production cost almost reached RM 20 million, making it the most
expensive Malaysian film produced by the expertise of local talents. It is seen
as a new benchmark in terms of the quality of the local animation industry in
all aspects on par with international standards. It is hoped that the company
is able to accumulate a great amount of sales with support from viewers
watching this film in cinemas and avoiding illegal recording and uploading of
the film to any social media platforms.

The film has accumulated a total of RM 25 million in just 3 weeks after its
release date in Malaysia with a total number of audience reaching 2 million. It
is the highest record of all time for the category of animated films screened
in Malaysian cinemas, even beating international film ‘Incredibles 2’ which
held the record previously.

Prior to this, ‘Upin & Ipin’ the series have been aired across Vietnam through
Disney Channel Asia.
