In August 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11058, which strengthens the requirement for compliance with occupational safety and health standards. The law seeks to ensure the safety of Filipino workers from hazards in their work environment. RA 11058 requires employers to provide a place of employment that is free from hazards, give complete job safety instructions and comply with OSH standards, including the provision of protective and safety devices. Employers who violate the law face a penalty of PHP 100,000 for each day the violation continues, starting from the day the employer or contractor is served with notice.
