Tianjin Binhai New Area exemplifies China's reform and opening-up
TIANJIN, China, Oct. 11, 2019 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/--

Over the past four decades, Tianjin Binhai New Area, undertaking a national
strategy, has written a new chapter of contributions to the country by riding
the tide of China's reform and opening-up.

In 1984, when the reform and opening-up drive just began, Deng Xiaoping wrote
seven characters in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA).
The saying of "Development zones have huge potential" became household across
the country. Since then, TEDA, as one of the country's first batch of
development zones dedicated to opening-up, has embarked on a fast track of
development.

In 1991, Tianjin Port Bonded Zone was approved as the earliest comprehensive
bonded zone in north China. After Deng Xiaoping's tour in South China in 1992,
the country's reform and opening-up entered a new historical stage, prompting
the open economy to take root in eastern Tianjin. In 1994, Tianjin established
the Binhai New Area by building on the development zone and the bonded area.

Binhai New Area was incorporated into the national strategy in 2006, becoming a
comprehensive supporting reform pilot area and the gateway to the opening-up of
north China and entering a new fast lane of growth. Binhai New Area has carried
out a string of reforms in many aspects. In 2014, three districts in the new
area became the first free trade zone in north China to pioneer the exploration
of the country's further opening-up.

Along with the great course of China's reform and opening-up, Binhai New Area
has actively explored for the country's further opening-up over the past 40
years, rising to be a star region in north China.
