On 23 and 24 September, 2020 Intelligent Manufacturing, Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Industries Promotion Conference and China-Japan Enterprises Matchmaking Event kicked off in Nanhai Qiaoshan Cultural Center in Foshan, China. The conference centered on promoting, communicating about and discussing on advanced manufacturing, new infrastructure and other industries. According to the Publicity Department of Nanhai District Committee, the conference attracted many renowned corporations like Canon, Ricoh and Konica Minolta. Various products including electronic parts and devices, precision machinery, auto parts, etc. were exhibited on site, attracting 140 companies to attend. Foshan has always had a good foundation for cooperation with Japan. As an important foreign capital provider in Foshan, Japan has more than 200 direct investment projects in Foshan, involving a total investment amount of approximately USD 5 billion, covering industries such as auto parts, home appliances, and new materials. Although COVID-19 has caused negative effect on the industrial chain and supply chain, the economic and trade cooperation between Foshan and Japan has still achieved positive outcomes. From January to August, Japan actually invested 411 million yuan in Foshan, with a year-on-year increase of 184.62%. The total import and export volume between Foshan and Japan reached 17.59 billion yuan, with an increase of 10.7%. The two growth rates are both higher than the city's average level over the same period. As the host of the conference for five consecutive years, Nanhai District is a fine example of Foshan for attracting investment from Japan. Now, there are 118 Japanese-funded enterprises in Nanhai District, with a total investment of over USD 3 billion, accounting for 60% of the city. Foshan is also laying a solid foundation for attracting new investment from Japanese enterprises. Danzao Town in Nanhai District is building the third-phase project of Nanhai Industrial Park for Japanese SMEs and planning to build the China-Japan Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Industrial Park. The project is located at the south of Danzao Town, divided into zones A and B for construction. Zone A is expected to be fully completed and put into use by the end of 2020. Considering that most Japanese companies rely on professional organizations to make preliminary analysis and conduct decision-making on foreign investment, Nanhai District has established an all-round platform to connect with Japanese professional organizations, including the three major Japanese banks, trading companies and construction companies such as Mitsubishi Corporation and Toyota Tsusho Corporation etc. In addition, to broaden the information channels for Japanese business investment, both Foshan and Nanhai District have set up liaison offices in key countries as well as key regions of China to get project information, bringing positive outcomes.
